WHAT’S A TAPESTRY FOR GLASGOW?
The Tapestry for Glasgow project is an expression of the People’s Plan for Glasgow through craftivism, aimed at bringing people together to physicalise our lives in Glasgow in fabric! Participants create a fabric square incorporating their hopes, dreams or fears for Glasgow. These squares will be joined together to create a tapestry of life in the city. We will record the process of working together to produce the tapestry, which is as important as the finished work. How we engage and work together is part of creating a new way of organising that works for the people of Glasgow. The idea is inspired from long standing traditions of tapestry, banner making, craft, resistance, and activism. See examples of completed squares!
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
1. This is an ongoing project that you can complete for free any time you like! You can make your square at home, using our guide and video which can be downloaded in 5 languages below. We will provide a pack with a blank square, fabric and other crafty materials, and a pre-paid envelope to send your finished square back to us!
2. Attend one of our free workshops! We are organising various workshops in Glasgow – keep an eye on our events page or follow us @makeyourmarkglasgow on social media to find out more!
3. Host a free workshop for your friends, workplace, campaign or other group! Glasgow City Council tell us that People Make Glasgow, so we want all people of all ages and backgrounds to be visible in shaping the future of Glasgow. Creating the tapestry with as many perspectives as possible will be a way to build connections between one another and our city, and show how we can put people before profit.
