Our Democratic Deficit: An Ode to the People of Glasgow

27th January 2023 Leave a Comment

On 14 January, we hosted a short session as part of the Glasgow Against Closures Gathering for Growth and Solidarity – the follow-up session to the Summit on Ownership and Democracy held in November 2022. Our contribution introduced the possibilities for People’s Assemblies for Glasgow that we have been exploring with organisers and volunteers from Ubuntu Women Shelter, GalGael, Enough! Degrowth Collective and more.

We repeated the poem exercise that we ran during the November summit. This time, we asked participants to complete the sentence “Glasgow needs alternative democratic institutions because…”

The remainder of the poem is co-created from those responses.
