SUMMARY:SOCIAL POWER NETWORK SCOTLAND PILOT WORKSHOP: CLIMBING OUT OF OUR SILOS - CAN WE TACKLE BIG ISSUES TOGETHER?
DESCRIPTION:The key ambition of Social Power Scotland is to explore whether there is value in creating a new space for change-makers to come together to pool knowledge\, ideas and resources that could strengthen their ability to drive change – individually and collectively.   \nTogether\, Scottish campaigners\, community leaders and activists have designed a new network for change-makers from right across civil society in Scotland. It is based on a belief that there is value in civil society coming together across its parts\, from people working deep in communities to people working on the national stage. That there is value in sharing perspectives across issues\, in moving out of our siloes to explore common challenges. That we can learn a huge amount from each other as well as building energy and momentum by openly talking\, sharing\, pondering. That in coming together\, civil society in Scotland can build its power to drive change individually and collectively.   \nEach session\, two network members will kick things off\, talking about how they have approached the challenge. We’ll then share our own experiences\, swap intelligence and insights\, consider where there are gaps we need to fill\, and what we can learn. The sessions will be informal\, with light touch facilitation just to keep things moving. We will set our own agendas\, hear from others\, make connections\, pull out learning from successes as well as mistakes. Ultimately\, we want to come away inspired and curious about what our own next steps could be and open to new possibilities.

SUMMARY:Cost-Of-Living Crisis Conference - STUC / Poverty Alliance
DESCRIPTION:The STUC\, in partnership with the Poverty Alliance\, is organising a day of discussion and planning. We will bring together representatives of grassroots community organisations with trade unionists not only to understand how this crisis is impacting our communities and workplaces\, but to identify the priority actions we need to turn the tide on the crisis. \nAs a society\, we believe in justice and compassion. But\, right now\, hundreds of thousands of people are living in poverty. All of us – and especially those in government – have a moral responsibility to make sure that everyone in our country has the incomes they need\, and the same chances to a life where their human dignity is respected. \nInstead\, we have had a decade of stagnating pay\, attacks on the social security net we all rely on\, and cuts to public services that left people across Scotland exposed when the pandemic struck. And now – before we have even recovered from COVID – workers are being hit by a cost-of-living crisis which will sweep thousands more into poverty. Faced with the biggest fall in living standards since the 1950s\, community organisations and trade unions in Scotland are coming together to demand real action to build a society where everyone has the access to the income and services we all need to live a dignified life. \nThe day will combine workshops in the morning on the major issues faced by communities and groups of workers and workshops in the afternoon aimed at organising\, building joint campaigns and working together to achieve our shared goals. \nWe will hear from unions\, community and campaign organisations\, many of whom are working at the grassroots. \nUnion reps and activists are welcome to attend. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

SUMMARY:Glasgow Against Closures: Weekly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Glasgow Against Closures: Weekly Meeting! \n \nThe weekly meeting of the Glasgow Against Closures campaign.  \nGlasgow Against Closures was formed in 2021 to draw together the network of local groups campaigning to save their libraries\, community centres and other venues from closures following the pandemic. Since then we have been gaining momentum in the city by harnessing the strength of trade unions and community councils\, and local campaigns and activists.  \nThese weekly meetings are open to all – a chance to share resources and campaign updates\, and plan events and other activities. If you are involved with a venue in Glasgow facing closure\, job losses or cuts to services\, we would love to hear your story and have a chat about how Glasgow Against Closures can support you! \nThese meetings take place every Tuesday at 6pm on this link: https://zoom.us/j/93415693468?pwd=bVVtelZVaEREZmprZjhSa0hzYWJLUT09 \n

SUMMARY:POLIS Leadership Summit
DESCRIPTION:Transforming urban mobility will be critical to achieve ambitious climate targets. Cities and regions have a key role to play – this is the time for brave leadership and decisive action\, at both local and global levels. \nPOLIS and the City of Glasgow (POLIS member and host of COP26) will hold a Leadership Summit to discuss the road ahead and set a clear message for COP27 later this year. \nThis high-level dialogue will convene political leaders and leading practitioners from EU and British local and regional authorities\, top experts from research and industry\, high-level representatives from national governments\, and key stakeholders involved in global climate processes. \nSpeakers include Werner Schmidt from the European Investment Bank and Wiebke Pankauke from the European Commission. \nWe also hear from West Midlands’ Cycling Mayor\, Adam Tranter and David Dessers\, Leuven’s Deputy Mayor for Mobility\, as well as Xavier Brice\, CEO of SUSTRANS and Michael Aherne\, Head of Transport Development Division at  National Transport Authority Ireland. \nWe address key action areas from recovery and resilience\, to inclusion and a just transition\, to the role of innovation\, financing\, and cooperation across different levels of government. \nThis event will be complemented by a specialised workshop\, ‘Research for Action’\, which will explore the current R&I landscape.

SUMMARY:Research For Action Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The transition to a climate-neutral Urban Mobility requires action. Local and regional authorities hold the keys to advancing the transition on the ground. Their leaders need Research & Innovation to provide them with useful insights and practical solutions\, to ensure critical priorities are implemented in a fair\, efficient and effective way.  \nThis Workshop will be shaped as a discussion among peers\, focusing on three issues: \n\nWhat is currently ‘hot’ in urban mobility R&I to accelerate decarbonisation? \nHow can we orient urban mobility research to best support leaders in advancing the transition to Sustainable Urban Mobility\, through “avoid-shift-improve” policies? \nHow can we ensure a continued level of EU-UK cooperation in this domain? \n\nOutput from this Workshop will be shared with the leaders attending the POLIS Leadership Summit “The Transition to Zero-Emission” (following day\, 8th of June)\, and guide our efforts to position Urban Mobility R&I as an essential activity in Horizon Europe. \nThis affiliated session is organised in cooperation with Innovate UK and ERTRAC. \nIt will address upcoming funding and project development\, exploring how cities\, regions and knowledge institutes can make the most of research and innovation opportunities. \nThe workshop is aimed at academic and research institutions focusing on: \n\nLeading issues in urban mobility R&I which are working to accelerate decarbonisation.\nOrienting urban mobility research to best support leaders in advancing the transition to Sustainable Urban Mobility.\nHow to ensure a continued level of EU-UK interaction and cooperation.

SUMMARY:SANE Collective - Four Minute City - The Follow Up
DESCRIPTION:Our May SANE meeting will take place on Wednesday 25 May from 6pm – 8pm \nThis will be a follow up from our April ‘Four Minute City’ meeting. SANE dedicated our monthly meeting in April to kicking off the 4 Minute City project so that we could use the contributions to create a list of demands for the incoming administration of the City Council. If you missed the meeting\, you can watch the contributions back here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpK_k5hozybTH_aGzoTbDhoOUvYmjca4j  \nOur next task is to collate the list of requests from the contributions into a more concise and coherent list of policy recommendations for the newly elected administration of Glasgow City Council. We then need to discuss our strategy for the delivery of the list\, taking lessons from our publicity of the Greenwash report in March.  \nPlease contact ionasaneglasgow@gmail.com if you wish to attend!
